How to Use XChat - Complete Guide

Getting started with XChat is easy. If you already have an X account, you can sign in immediately. There is no separate registration flow and no phone number binding. Once you open the app, you land in a pure messaging interface with no social feed, no tweets, and no timeline distractions.

The core feature set includes end-to-end encrypted text, image, and file messaging, disappearing messages that can auto-delete in as little as five minutes, two-way unsend, voice and video calls, group chats with up to 481 participants, and a built-in Grok AI assistant.

Based on early user feedback, the feature set is reasonably complete, but if you are used to the polish of WeChat, XChat may feel a bit bare at first. In many ways it is still the old X DM product, just spun out into its own app with a tighter focus. That said, the focus itself is part of the appeal: when you open it, you go straight into chat. Enabling a PIN adds a second local lock and is worth doing.
