Send Encrypted Messages on XChat

Yes. XChat enables end-to-end encryption by default for all private conversations, so there is no separate toggle you need to turn on. That is a meaningful difference from Telegram, where only Secret Chats are truly end-to-end encrypted and regular chats are not.

In XChat, a message is encrypted before it leaves your device. During transport, even X's own servers should only see ciphertext. The recipient's device can display the message only after decrypting it locally with the private key stored on that device.

One caveat matters here: encrypting message content does not mean absolutely everything is encrypted. Metadata such as who you talked to, when you talked, and how often you talked may still be visible at the server layer. That limitation is common across many E2EE apps, and XChat is unlikely to be an exception.
